Should I buy from Etsy?

I’ve purchased from Etsy many times. Went to purchase 2 items. And got scammed! First time ever. I had checked this person's reviews. Looked legit. I waited for the item to ship and it did not. Contacted seller…they got back to me, saying it will ship. Then still did not receive the item. Sent another message to seller…no response. Looked up the seller's shop but they no longer exist. Notified Etsy. They said I had to wait a few more days. And then I would have to proceed with a resolution expert only through email. I was totally scammed I won’t be buying from them again. I contacted my credit card company and disputed the transaction.
No, it is not safe. Returning items is a joke. You just really go somewhere else. The quality is a joke you have to pay to ship something back at an unbelievable cost. I bought a coat for $153 and they said it would cost me $50 dollars to send it back. So, I ordered an item from this website and when it hasn't arrived (after a month) I opened the dispute on their website but they just pointed me to PayPal (dispute still open). What's even worse they closed my dispute on their website before the dispute on PayPal was over and prevented me from pursuing this matter any further. In my emails, they would just reply "how sorry they are, but can offer me a $50 voucher on my next purchase". So all together they ripped me off for $200 but offered me $50 back. What a nerve. Customer service 0 points. Never again ordering from these amateurs.
I have not yet run into an Etsy Seller who is more than willing to accommodate (within reason) - they aren’t going to risk their account for you, but they will do everything within the policy for you! Except for that seller above, I was talking about. Also, a very UNIQUE part about Etsy is that you are actually able to purchase in Bulk with some sellers, and yes you do indeed receive a discount! Etsy is arguably a more enjoyable experience than Amazon! Yes, it is very safe. Pay with Paypal for even more purchasing protection. When making a purchase over $50, I always request the package to be insured in case of breakage or lost mail. Each store has its own policies, so just make sure to check the fine print before you buy. Ordering on Etsy is like ordering from any other marketplace website. It depends on the seller, of course. The best way to judge whether or not it’s safe to order is to take the time to look at the seller’s shop. How many reviews do they have, and how many are not so great reviews? Every seller is going to have a couple of dings, but if the seller you’re looking at has quite a few, especially in recent times, you may want to think twice.

I like using their site because it helps out small-time sellers.
